Guelph police say an 18-year-old man went on a vandalism spree Sunday morning.
At approximately 4:50 a.m. police say the accused damaged a door at the public works yard at 45 Municipal Street. Police say he then moved to a garage at 50 Municipal Street, where he smashed glass and then entered the building. Guelph police claim the man smashed several windows in the office area and glass on trucks, and then drove several of the trucks into each other while still in the garage.
“There was a significant amount of damage that was done there,” said Sgt Gordon Mitchell with Guelph Police Services.
Police allege the man then drove a large street sweeper though a garage door, and up Denver Road, where he drove it off the road into a bush area, before leaving the scene.
“We arrived on scene and found the vehicle was abandoned in a bush area. Fortunately the individual came back to the scene shortly after that and was arrested,” Mitchell told CTV News.
The man, identified Monday as Connor Marion, is facing multiple charges including break and enter, theft, mischief, impaired driving and over 80.
“We’ve got about five vehicles damaged,” said Rod Keller, the general manager of the City of Guelph’s public works department.
“It’s a lot of cosmetic damage, so windows, glass, some tears on the interior, but the engine and the functionality of the vehicle is still quite good,” Keller said.
